Welcome to Makelab! Here's your step-by-step guide to placing your first 3D printing order.
2. Step 1: Prepare Your Files
Export your CAD model as STL or OBJ format (most compatible)
Ensure your file is watertight (no gaps or errors)
Check that dimensions are correct (use mm for units)
Don't have a CAD file yet? We offer 3D modeling services — skip to Step 2.
3. Step 2: Get a Quote
Option A: Instant Quote Tool (Fastest) — Upload your STL file at makelab.com, select material, quantity, and finish, and get pricing in seconds. You can place your order directly online.
Option B: Custom Quote (For complex projects) — Submit the intake form with your files, describe your project and requirements, and our team reviews and provides a detailed quote within 4 hours (business days).
4. Step 3: Review Your Quote
Check material, finish, quantity, and pricing
Review dispatch date (when parts leave our facility)
Add shipping time to estimate delivery
5. Step 4: Place Your Order
Approve the quote online or via email
Payment processed (credit card, ACH, or Net 30 for approved accounts)
You'll receive an order confirmation email with dispatch date
6. Step 5: Design Review (Automatic)
Our engineering team reviews your file for printability
If issues are found, we'll contact you with recommendations
You choose: fix and resubmit, or proceed "At Risk"
7. Step 6: Production
Parts enter our queue
Multiple QC checks throughout production
You can check order status online anytime
8. Step 7: Dispatch & Delivery
Parts ship on your dispatch date
Tracking info emailed automatically
Delivery based on selected shipping method (1-5 business days)
