It is the customer’s responsibility to verify CAD model dimensions before placing orders.
Manual Quotes
-
For manually quoted CAD models, customers must verify dimensions before placing orders.
-
Dimensions are provided at the quote stage on the PDF and email quote.
3. Feasibility Check
-
Makelab ensures that the part is printable as provided, based on the 3D CAD file submitted and it falls within the dimensional accuracy tolerances associated with the selected printing process.
-
Makelab ensures that the requested delivery timeline is achievable with current production capacity.
-
Makelab ensures that all required support structures will be generated in a way that does not interfere with critical part geometry, as defined by the original 3D CAD design.
- Makelab is not responsible for assembly fit if Makelab did not create the 3D CAD file.
4. Acknoweldged Risk
- "Acknoweldged Risk" orders are defined as jobs where print success is not guaranteed due to factors including, but not limited to:
-
Challenging or fragile geometry
-
Complex print orientation or support requirements
-
Material-specific limitations
-
Extended print durations
-
Expedited turnaround (e.g., SLA "Rush" and FDM/SLA "Next-Day" orders)
-
- Clients will be notified when a job is deemed "Acknoweldged Risk." By proceeding with payment or production approval, the Client acknowledges that Makelab has disclosed the associated risks and agrees to continue with production under those conditions.
- All "Acknoweldged Risk" orders are non-refundable. This includes:
- SLA “Rush” orders
- FDM/SLA “Next-Day” orders
- Any order explicitly flagged by Makelab as “Acknoweldged Risk”
-
Support removal is not included. Delivery timelines for "Acknoweldged Risk" orders are best effort and not guaranteed.
-
Makelab assumes no responsibility for defects, failed prints, or deviations in output quality related to "Acknoweldged Risk" orders. No warranty—express or implied—is provided. The Client agrees to release, indemnify, and hold harmless Makelab from any and all liability related to the use or performance of "Acknoweldged Risk" prints.
- "Acknoweldged Risk" orders are non-refundable.
5. Design Policy
Scope of Design Work
-
Makelab provides 3D CAD file creation and design modifications based on client specifications.
-
The scope of work, including deliverables and timeline, will be outlined before the project begins.
-
Any changes beyond the initially agreed scope will require a new quote and may result in timeline adjustments.
-
Makelab is not responsible for manufacturability beyond the specified printing process unless explicitly requested.
First Revision Policy
-
The first revision of a CAD model designed by Makelab is complimentary.
-
Additional revisions will be priced individually, per part, based on complexity and time required.
-
Fundamental design changes (e.g., shifting from one concept to another) will require a new project quote.
Client Approval & No Refunds Policy
-
Refunds for 3D CAD file creation are not available once the client has approved a design or once Makelab proceeds with printing.
-
Clients must provide explicit written approval before Makelab moves forward with production or file delivery.
-
Project work will not proceed without explicit client approval.
Free Revision Request Period
-
Clients are entitled to one (1) complimentary revision per project.
-
The free revision must be requested within 10 business days following the last Makelab design update.
-
The revision request must be reasonable and minor (e.g., slight sizing adjustments, minor cosmetic refinements).
-
Significant design overhauls will be treated as a new project and billed accordingly.
Test Print Policy
-
One (1) complimentary test print in PLA at draft quality is provided for design projects.
-
Shipping costs for the test print are the client’s responsibility.
-
Test Print Parameters:
-
Material: PLA

Print Quality: Draft (300-micron layer height)
-
-
Only one (1) test print per design project is provided. Additional prints must be submitted as a separate order and invoiced independently.
Additional Design Fees
-
Requests for additional CAD files (e.g., variations, iterations, or different formats) beyond the original deliverables will incur additional charges.
-
Requests for alternative versions of the model (e.g., different tolerances, wall thicknesses, or material-specific adjustments) will be quoted separately.
Intellectual Property & File Ownership
-
Client retains ownership of all 3D CAD files and designs unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.
Manufacturing Suitability Disclaimer
-
Makelab designs parts for additive manufacturing (3D printing) based on the client’s chosen material and process.
-
Clients are responsible for ensuring the CAD file is suitable for other manufacturing methods (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining).
-
Makelab is not liable for modifications required for mass production unless specifically contracted for manufacturability consulting.
6. Custom Color & Third-Party Filaments
We primarily print using our vetted, in-house inventory of materials. If a client requests a custom color or an alternative filament brand outside of our accepted list (recommended: Polymaker), Makelab will assess feasibility on a case-by-case basis. Use of non-standard materials is accepted at the client’s risk, and we cannot guarantee print quality, dimensional accuracy, or part performance. Any issues arising from the use of client-specified or third-party materials will not be covered under our reprint or refund policies.
7. Scanning Services
Scope of Scanning Services
-
Makelab offers 3D scanning services to create digital CAD representations of physical objects.
-
Scanning quality and resolution depend on object size, geometry, and surface reflectivity.
- Scanned 3D models will be cleaned and smoothed out, but may need further additional post processing.
-
Scanned files will be provided in .STL or .OBJ format unless otherwise specified.
Accuracy & Limitations
-
Makelab does not guarantee 100% accuracy in scanning results.
-
Fine details, undercuts, or transparent surfaces may not scan correctly due to hardware limitations.
-
Advanced post-processing and clean-up of scanned data may require an additional fee.
Modifications to Scanned Files
-
Scanned data is provided as-is, and any further modifications (e.g., resizing, smoothing, or feature adjustments) will require a separate design service request.
-
Clients must specify any intended modifications before scanning begins to avoid additional charges.
Intellectual Property & Ownership
-
Clients retain ownership of scanned files but grant Makelab the right to use anonymized versions for internal process improvements.
-
Makelab will not distribute or resell scanned files unless expressly authorized by the client.
Refunds & Liability for Scanning Services
-
No refunds will be issued once scanning services have been performed.
-
Makelab is not responsible for discrepancies between the scanned model and the physical object due to surface distortions, scan occlusions, or object deformities.
-
Clients acknowledge that scanning is an approximation and should not be used as the sole reference for precision manufacturing unless further refinement is performed.
8. Refund & Reprint Policy
Refund Requests
-
Refund requests must be made within a 10-day window from the date of order receipt.
-
Reprints for Print Failures caused by machine error, post-processing issues, or improper packaging will be reprinted at no additional cost.
-
Customer CAD File Errors resulting in print failures will be reprinted at 50% of the original cost.
-
Orders lost in transit due to shipping carrier issues may be reprinted at 50% of the original cost.
Order Cancellations
-
Cancellations requested beyond the 2-hour Order Confirmation window are non-refundable.
-
Cancellations within the 2-hour window will be refunded at 50% of the order cost.
9. Bulk/Volume Orders
No Cancellations After Approval
Once a bulk order is approved and scheduled, it cannot be cancelled without penalty. Cancellation fees are based on the stage of production at the time of the request:
-
Before production begins – 25% fee
-
Early production (<25% complete) – 50% fee
-
Mid-production (25–75% complete) – 75% fee
-
Late-stage or complete (>75%) – 100% fee (no refund)
This structure accounts for the irreversible allocation of machines, labor, and resources.
No File Changes or Production Pauses
Once a bulk order enters production, it must proceed without interruption. Sampling and approvals are completed in advance to finalize design intent and ensure smooth execution.
If a client-initiated change or pause is requested after production has begun, the following terms apply:
-
No Refunds for Completed Work – Any parts already produced remain billable and non-refundable.
-
Re-Sampling Required – Design, material, or finish changes after production begins will require a new round of sampling and client approval. This resets the timeline and may significantly extend delivery dates.
-
Production Reset Fee – 25% – A flat 25% fee, based on the total order value, will be applied if production is paused, materially changed, or restarted after kickoff. This fee covers the operational disruption to machine scheduling, labor, material staging, and administrative overhead.
-
New Quote for Material or Scope Changes – Any substantive change will be treated as a new project and require a revised quote, deposit, and production timeline.
Setup & Pre-Production Fees
Bulk orders may incur a non-refundable setup fee to cover engineering, scheduling, sampling, and machine allocation. This fee is included in the upfront deposit.
Lead Times & Production Commitment
Lead times are based on resource allocation at the time production is approved. Any delays in client approvals, payment, or submission of final files may affect the delivery schedule.
Quality Acceptance
All bulk orders are produced to the tolerances, finishes, and expectations established during the sampling phase. By approving the sample, the client acknowledges these benchmarks as the standard for final production.
-
Acceptable Variance – Parts are subject to the dimensional accuracy ranges specified for each printing technology and material, as published on our website. Variations within those tolerances are considered acceptable and are not eligible for reprint or refund.
-
Functional vs. Cosmetic Expectations – For bulk orders, quality control (QC) criteria—whether dimensional, functional, or cosmetic—are defined and agreed upon during project intake. Makelab will inspect and verify parts only against those documented QC criteria. Deviations outside these terms may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis but do not guarantee reprint eligibility.
-
Material-Specific Characteristics – Clients are expected to understand the typical attributes of each process and material (e.g., surface texture from MJF or SLA, slight powder residue, color variation) before production begins. These inherent traits do not constitute defects.
-
Post-Processing Considerations – For finishing services (painting, smoothing, dyeing), natural variation in finish quality may occur across a bulk run. Unless a specific finish spec is agreed to in writing, minor differences are acceptable.
We recommend that clients document any critical QC dimensions, cosmetic zones, or functional interfaces prior to kickoff to avoid ambiguity.
10. In-Person Meetings & Walk-Ins
-
Walk-ins and drop-ins are not permitted.
