Which materials are UV-resistant and weather-resistant?

Last updated: 2026-04-09

For outdoor applications or parts exposed to sunlight and weather, choose materials with proven UV and environmental stability:

1. Best Options

PETG — Good UV resistance, handles temperature fluctuations well, and resistant to moisture and chemicals. Ideal for outdoor housings, signs, and fixtures.

ASA (similar to ABS) — Excellent UV resistance and weather-stable for years outdoors. Maintains color and strength in sunlight. Ideal for exterior automotive parts and outdoor enclosures.

Nylon — Moderate UV resistance (can degrade over time) but excellent moisture and chemical resistance. Ideal for outdoor mechanical parts, though UV coating is recommended for extended exposure.

2. Not Recommended for Outdoor Use

3. Pro Tip

For maximum outdoor durability, consider adding a UV-resistant coating or paint to any 3D printed part.
