How Durable Are 3D Printed Parts Outdoors or in Sunlight?

1. Best Materials for Outdoor Use

ASA (FDM) — Specifically designed for outdoor applications. UV-stable, weather-resistant. Top choice.

PETG (FDM) — Good UV resistance, chemical resistant. Slight fading over 1–2 years.

Nylon PA12 (MJF) — Strong and durable but absorbs moisture. Seal with clear coat.

2. Materials to Avoid Outdoors

PLA — Biodegradable, softens at ~60°C, degrades with UV.

Standard SLA resins — Become brittle and yellow.

3. Extending Outdoor Life

For outdoor projects, tell us your application when ordering and we’ll recommend the most durable material and finish combination.
