Drag your files onto quote.makelab.com, or click the upload box to browse. You can add up to 50 files at once and add more later with + Add in the parts list.
Files we accept
| Kind | Formats |
|---|---|
| Mesh and CAD, opened right away | STL, OBJ, 3MF, STEP (.step, .stp), IGES (.igs, .iges), Rhino (.3dm), PLY |
| Native CAD, converted for you | SolidWorks (.sldprt, .sldasm), Inventor (.ipt, .iam), Fusion 360 (.f3d), Creo and NX (.prt, .asm), CATIA (.catpart, .catproduct), Parasolid (.x_t, .x_b), JT, ACIS (.sat) |
Native CAD files take a little longer while we convert them, sometimes a few minutes. Fusion 360 archives (.f3z) can't be converted: export the design as STEP or .f3d first.
Choose your units
After you upload, we ask whether the file is in mm, cm or in. A size comparison, like "about a smartphone", helps you check it's right. The units apply to every part in that upload. To change one part later, right-click it in the parts list and choose Units.
Files with several bodies
If a file holds more than one separate shape, we ask how to quote it:
Combine into one solid part: printed and priced as one piece.
Separate parts: each shape is quoted as its own part.
Interlocking assembly: linked pieces that don't touch, like a chain. Our team reviews these by hand.
Large files
STEP and IGES files over 80 MB are converted on our side, which takes longer. We can convert files up to 150 MB. For anything larger, export it as STL or 3MF, or send it through our intake form and we'll quote it by hand.
If an upload doesn't work
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| [file] is a .zip archive | Unzip it and drop the model files inside |
| [file] is empty (0 bytes) | The file is in a cloud folder. Download it to your computer first |
| We could not read [file] | Re-export it from your CAD program as STL or STEP and try again |
| [program] files can't be quoted directly | Export to STEP, STL or 3MF and upload that |
| Upload didn't finish | Remove that part and add it again |
| Your network blocked the upload | Some company networks block uploads. Try another network, such as home Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot, or send the file through our intake form |
